A buttock lift, also called a gluteoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the buttock and waist area by improving its contour and shape. A buttock lift improves and/or removes excess, sagging buttock skin that has developed as a result of weight loss, ageing and gravity, or genetics. During a buttock lift, excess skin and fat are removed from the waist area. The remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look.

About Surgery. The surgery is done under general anesthesia and takes between 2-4 hours. The specific incisions will depend on your particular case, but in general, for a lower body lift, you will start off on your stomach or side while an incision is made all the way around your body at the waistline. The surgeon will remove the skin and fat below the incision and tighten up the tissues there. Part of the patient can rotate the tissue flap to increase the buttocks. You will then be switched to your back so the front side can be addressed. A tummy tuck can be performed to tighten the skin and correct the position of your belly button, and depending on your discussions during the consultation, an inner thigh lift may be done with incisions in the groin and inner thighs. After all of the excess skin has been removed, sutures will be placed in underlying tissues to provide long-term support, and the incisions will be closed in layers over the drains for maximum stability and control of stretching and swelling.

Post Surgery. You’ll likely feel moderate pain, which will be controlled by pain medication.  It’s normal to have swelling in the surgical area for about six weeks. A special compression garment should be worn for 6 weeks after the surgery. For the first 4 weeks after a lower body lift, you’ll need to take care when moving and avoid positions that strain your incision line — such as quickly bending at the waist — to prevent the reopening of the wound. Strenuous physical activities and sports are recommended not earlier than 2 – 3 months after the surgery. The final outcome is seen after 4 – 6 months when the swelling subsides completely. The patient can return to work within a few weeks if the occupation does not require strenuous movements or physical work.
