GYNECOMASTIA SURGERY

A male breast reduction or gynecomastia surgery is performed to remove excess skin and tissue from the chest to reduce the size of the male breasts. This cosmetic surgery procedure removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore a flatter, firmer and more masculine contour to the chest. Due to genetics, use of certain medications, or other unspecified reasons, some men develop the appearance of enlarged breasts. Gynecomastia involves developing an excess amount of fatty tissue and/or glandular tissue; most commonly, it is a combination of both tissues.

About Surgery. You will get general anesthesia during the operation. The procedure may only take up to one to two hours, depending on your case. If your breast enlargement is caused by excess fat tissue it will be fixed using a liposuction procedure. Excess glandular tissue is the main cause of your gynecomastia, it will be removed surgically together with an excess of fat. The incision is made along the lower edge of the nipple area (the areola).The patient will stay for one day in the private clinic, and on the next day, is discharged.

Post Surgery. Full recovery varies between individuals, but usually, you will be back to normal within 2 weeks. Pain can be experienced for a few days. Bandages covering the surgical sites should be changed every 2–3 days. Patients are strongly advised to wear a special surgical garment 24 hours per day for the next 5-6 weeks and to avoid sports and other physical activities. The patient can return to work within a few days if an occupation does not require strenuous movements.
