Who is a Breast Lift Suitable For?
A breast lift is ideal for individuals experiencing a loss of skin elasticity, which impacts the firmness and youthful contour of the breasts. This procedure is commonly sought after pregnancy and breastfeeding when the breasts naturally sag or the areola size changes. It can also be beneficial following significant weight loss. Women in good overall health who are not currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive soon are suitable candidates for this surgery. If a patient has excess weight, it is advisable to wait until they reach a stable and desired weight before undergoing the procedure.
Who Is a Candidate for Breast Lift Surgery?
A breast lift is performed on women whose breasts have lost firmness and youthful shape due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss. This procedure can also correct enlarged or misshapen areolas. The best candidates are women who are in good overall health, are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding, and do not plan to become pregnant in the near future. If a patient is overweight, it is recommended to undergo the surgery after reaching a stable weight.
How to Prepare for Surgery?
During the consultation, the patient ’s desired breast size and shape are discussed, and all necessary medical tests are conducted. Before the procedure, it is recommended to avoid anti-inflammatory medications, as they can increase the risk of bleeding. Additionally, smoking should be stopped at least 6 weeks before and after surgery to ensure proper healing.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts 2–3 hours. It is often combined with breast augmentation using implants.
Breast Lift Techniques:
✔ Periareolar (Donut) Lift – Used for minor sagging. An incision is made around the areola, excess skin is removed, and the nipple is repositioned. This method leaves minimal scarring. ✔ Anchor Lift – Recommended for significant sagging and excess skin. An inverted T-shaped incision allows for the removal of more tissue but results in larger scars. ✔ Breast Lift with Implants – If the patient desires fuller, larger breasts along with lifting, implants can be placed to enhance volume and shape.
Post-Surgery Care and Recovery
First Month After Surgery: Patients stay in the clinic for the first 24 hours. After a few days, light work can be resumed, avoiding excessive movement. A compression bra must be worn 24/7 for 4 weeks. Healing and Scarring: Swelling subsides within 2–3 weeks, with final results visible after a few months. Scars should be protected from direct sunlight for at least 6 months to minimize visibility. They typically fade within 2 years. Physical Activity: Intense physical activity should be avoided for at least 2 months. Light activities can be resumed gradually, as advised by the surgeon. A breast lift restores a youthful, firmer appearance, improves overall breast shape, and enhances confidence and well-being.
